V3 x Pachama

In our mission to become a sustainable company, we have partnered with Pachama to help support the Jari Pará Forest Conservation Project.

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time and as a business supported by over one million athletes worldwide, we remain accountable for the potential impact our operations have on the climate and understand the importance of the role we play in helping to protect our playing field; planet earth.

As part of our sustainability strategy and in a move towards reducing our impact on the environment, we have committed, in our partnership with Pachama, to neutralise the carbon emissions produced as a result of our shipping-related transportation, offsetting the CO2 emissions of every shipment made worldwide, through financial contributions paid per shipment to the Jari Pará Forest Conservation Project. These funds are determined through industry peer-reviewed models to determine the CO2 volume that is released into the atmosphere per shipment.

The Jari Pará REDD+ Project ensures forest conservation and reduction of potential greenhouse gas emissions, based on a model of local economic development that protects 496,988 hectares of standing tropical forest in Almeirim, state of Pará, Brazil. Contributions made by V3 Apparel work towards helping conservationists and experts in the Amazon to reduce deforestation, reduce forest degradation and promote forest conservation and management to help protect and restore the 'Earth's lungs'.

JARI PARÁ FOREST CONSERVATION PROJECT

JARI PARÁ FOREST CONSERVATION PROJECT

The Jari Pará REDD+ (Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation) project is a partnership between Biofílica Investimentos Ambientais S.A. and Jari Celulose, belonging to the Jari Group, with the purpose of promoting forest conservation and reducing potential greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) based on a model of local economic development that values the “standing forest” through the integration of Sustainable Forest Management activities and the commercialisation of environmental services.

The Project is based in the Amazon rainforest, located in the municipality of Almeirim, in the State of Pará, and borders the State of Amapá to the North. There is a very important role in this region as it serves as a home for many rural families and as an ecological corridor, with several Conservation Units (CUs) in its vicinity. It has a very rich biodiversity, its vegetation includes ten forest and non-forest formations and species of extreme ecological and social importance.

Jari Pará REDD+ Project will be verified by Pachama using their monitoring technology and provides shelter to more than 2400 flora and fauna species. The area plays an important socio-environmental role in the region as it serves as home for hundreds of rural families, also it forms an ecological corridor with several conservation units in its surroundings with a rich biodiversity, diverse plant formations and species of ecological and social importance. Through actions that encourage the responsible exploration of natural resources, the project promotes the conservation of natural resources, coupled with socioeconomic development focusing on sustainable business chains to improve the well-being of communities as a result of project activities.

PACHAMA

Pachama is a for-purpose company dedicated to protecting our living planet through the restoration of nature to help solve climate change.

The group is focused on partnering with the most trusted project developers from around the world who are executing reforestation or forest conservation projects verified following strict protocols to build an online platform that people can easily access and help support projects offsetting their own carbon emissions in the process. Using tech-based verification methods, Pachama develops machine learning algorithms to analyse satellite images of forests to provide accurate estimations of carbon storage, accelerating the once error-prone and slow manual process of measuring. This data also provides additional auditing and verification of the quality of ongoing projects and allows for continuous monitoring afterward.

Pachama uses tech like LIDAR to calculate biomass density in the forests their projects protect. PachamaPachama uses tech to calculate biomass density.

Pachama's ultimate aim is to scale up the protection and restoration of the forests of the planet with tens of thousands of new and verified projects operating across the globe, resulting in increased carbon recapture from the earth's atmosphere to help reverse climate change.
